George Peterson AKA GeoSuPhat

George Peterson AKA GeoSuPhat
GeoSuPhat is the artist name of George Pierce Peterson. He plays guitar, keyboards, harmonica, percussions and is an avid sound designer and graphic artist. His musical style is predominantly electronic mixed with some rock. GeoSuPhat is constantly sliding in and out of techno, ambient, electro, industrial and glitchy IDM and is hard to define as any one genre of music.

Born and raised near the shores of Lake Michigan and its cold windy winters, George was influenced by bands like Pink Floyd, Kraftwerk, Todd Rundgren, ELP, Hawkwind, Hendrix, Robin Trower, Montrose and Manfred Mann. He has always been drawn towards electronic sounds, computer music and sound synthesis and design.

His father worked for the telephone company and as a kid George was always digging through old circiuts, tv, radios, speakers housing. He would irritate his parents by dragging stuff home from the junkyard tear apart to try to put pieces of them together to get some new sound out of his gutiar and amp. His goal was always to find ways to manipulate the original sound into something new and different.

Later, George served in the military overseas, after which he spent a few years going to college in Colorado, where he studied electronics and computer programming. He put down his guitar and started concentrating on electronic sound and the rapidly evolving digital revolution. Starting off with Commodore computers (Vic-20, C-64 and then Amigas), a homemade midi interface and a cheap Casio CZ-101 that he bought in a pawn shop. He started using a midi software program (Dr.Ts), struggled with learning how to program his synth and to get it interfaced to the computer. He designed several programs for his own use to randomize presets on the Casio and manipulate the midi data and the sound output.

In 1990, George moved his family to Europe and settled down in Germany where he had met his wife Christine earlier. Europe in the 90’s was really a great place to be for the electronic music scene and slowly Georges roots in rock were being mingled with Techno, DnB and Ambient experimental electronica.

He retired his Amiga and moved over to PCs, with some new software, hardware and the availability of the internet soon gave birth to ‘GeoSuPhat’ as a pseudonym for his use as an artist online. George then teamed up with his son Tobias (Sum-1, PsychoSID) making graphic art and music. They decided to create Togeo Studios and bought a domain for them to post their music and art on the internet. The name Togeo being a mix of TObias and GEOrge.

Georges music lately has been comprised mostly of electro, IDM, ambient and leans towards minimal techno.

Taking Out The Trash

Taking Out The Trash is George Pierce Peterson AKA GeoSuPhats debut album on Togeo Studios in-house Togeo Music label. It is a collection of ten tracks, all electronic titles crossing the genres of electro, idm, minimal industrial and techno. A highly experimental album offering many swings in the flow as it delivers a somewhat subtle insight into the influences behind the artist GeoSuPhat. At times there are gritty distorted rock and industrial overtones, while at other times delivering a very contrasting lightness to the mood.

This is Georges’ first official release since his early days on Acid planet in 2002-2004 where he became GeoSuPhat. In 2005 and 2006 he spent most of his time working with graphic arts and learning web design. In early 2007 he started to produce ‘Taking Out The Trash” which had been conceptualized earlier on AP. In his own words he considers the album to be somewhat “raw” and has purposely left it with that feel not wanting to overwork the tracks which would eliminate some of their natural flow and emotion.

Tracklist:
01 - 711 On Sunday
02 - Dance On A Whim
03 - Fumpin In The Sun
04 - Grand Rapidos
05 - Hot Like Summer
